Castles & Palaces

Highlight Kyburg Castle

There is usually something mystical about the sight of castles and fortresses alone. When you stand within the historic walls, you are automatically transported back in time. At least that's how most visitors feel at Kyburg Castle, which towers proudly 150 meters above the Töss river outside Winterthur. It is probably the best-preserved feudal castle in north-eastern Switzerland. It was home to both the counts of Kyburg and the Habsburg rulers. And even the city of Zurich was once the proud owner of the castle, which it administered as a bailiwick.

Exciting stories are told to guests via an audio guide, allowing them to immerse themselves in a long-forgotten era. The castle can now also be admired from the comfort of your own home via a virtual tour. The only thing you will miss out on is the magnificent view, which stretches across green forests and meadows, to the Hegau volcanoes, the Feldberg, the Bernese Alps, the Jura heights and all the way to the Glärnisch.

Public guided tours take place regularly. For both adults and children.

But Kyburg Castle is not the only castle worth a visit. There are numerous other castles and fortresses in the region in and around Winterthur.
