Kyburg Castle Museum

Close to Winterthur, Kyburg Castle towers proudly 150 meters above the River Töss, ideally situated for hikes and excursions in a beautiful landscape. Kyburg Castle is the best-preserved feudal castle in north-eastern Switzerland and the oldest castle museum in Switzerland.

The new exhibition shows the almost 1000-year history of the Kyburg rulers and allows visitors to experience the complex architecture of the monument in a new way. Dozens of suits of armor and helmets as well as hundreds of half-arms can be admired in the richly filled armory. Audio guides "Kyburg in your ear" are available in German, English, French and Italian for individual tours of the exhibition. And at the audio stations in the battlements and in the knight's house, minor historical figures have their say. They provide an insight into everyday life and rule at the castle.

You can linger in the baroque castle garden and admire the vegetables, medicinal herbs and flowers. You can also enjoy a magnificent view from the reopened ring wall path. Children will love the dragon hunt in the castle and the playground in front of the castle garden.

Kyburg Castle was the ancestral seat of the counts of the same name. In 1264, it came into the possession of the Habsburgs, who sold it to the city of Zurich in 1424. Until 1798, Zurich bailiffs resided at the castle and governed the subjects, held court over them and collected taxes.
