Swisslog Healthcare: An insight into the hospital of the future

A robot that moves medicines around, transparent tubes on the ceiling through which medicines are shot into capsules and medicine cabinets that show you exactly how much of what you need to take. Visitors to Swisslog Healthcare in Winterthur feel as if they are in a hospital from the year 2050. At least that's how our business development team, consisting of Antonietta Lomoro and Roger Graber, felt recently when they visited Swisslog Healthcare.

"Basically, our products ensure that the right medication reaches the right patient at the right time, in the right dose and in the right way," says Ferdinand Gross, Project Management Officer. Swisslog Healthcare is the only company to offer transport and pharmacy automation for hospitals and pharmacies from a single source. What sounds simple is in reality a complex matter. Especially in large hospitals or pharmacies, where there is a lot of staff, the potential for errors is still high, says Gross.

Products that help to minimize errors
"Wherever people work, mistakes happen, that's quite normal. Our products help to minimize these errors." For example, only authorized persons can remove medication from the automated medication cabinet. This automatically indicates from which compartment the required medication must be taken and in what quantity. At the same time, countless processes run in the background, for example the cabinet automatically orders replenishments in good time if there is not enough of a medication left.

Good network is appreciated
Swisslog Healthcare's "Innovation Hub" has only been located on Zürcherstrasse in Winterthur since the beginning of the year. "Our team feels very much at home here," says Ferdinand Gross. The company also appreciates the good network. Bringing the "Innovation Hub" to Winterthur was a strategic decision. In Winterthur, it is easy to come into contact with people working in the same field at events. However, one thing is currently missing, says Gross: "We are looking for a hospital partner who will work with us and with whom we can test our products in practice."
