"Many companies want to become more climate-friendly, but don't know where to start"
Climate protection needs more than good intentions - it needs concrete action. This is exactly where our member MYBLUEPLANET comes in: with practical solutions, community involvement and inspiring success stories, the association motivates people and companies to actively reduce CO₂. In this interview, association president Daniel Lüscher talks about the most important goals, impressive projects and simple steps that companies can take to make an immediate difference.

Daniel Lüscher founded the MYBLUEPLANET association in 2007 and has been campaigning for climate protection ever since.

What are MYBLUEPLANET's goals and how do you motivate people and companies to actively participate in climate protection?
Daniel Lüscher: Our primary goal is to make concrete CO₂ savings and to take as many people and companies as possible on the path towards net zero. We focus on practical solutions, community involvement and inspiring success stories to get people and companies excited about climate protection. By offering low-threshold opportunities for participation and shaping sustainable change as a positive community experience, we create positive momentum with a long-term impact.
Which current or past project has impressed you the most personally?
In 2011, we launched the "Every cell counts - solar energy goes to school" project here in Winterthur. The aim was to raise awareness of sustainable energy sources and concrete climate protection through educational programs and the installation of solar systems on school buildings together with pupils. That was the beginning and an important milestone for today's Climate School program. Since then, 43 schools across Switzerland have joined the program and over 14,600 pupils have been actively involved, installing solar systems and redesigning school grounds, thus boosting biodiversity in front of their own classrooms. MYBLUEPLANET's climate school inspires me and is a success because it anchors sustainability directly in everyday school life, empowers pupils to take action and brings about long-term change through practical projects.
What simple steps can companies take in their everyday lives to reduce their carbon footprint - and how does MYBLUEPLANET support them?
There are numerous simple measures that can be implemented without great effort and still achieve a noticeable reduction in the carbon footprint. The simplest measure that can be implemented immediately is in the area of energy. The future is renewable and switching to electricity from renewable sources is the right thing to do. And if you reduce your energy consumption, you also save money immediately. LED lighting, energy-efficient appliances and automatic switch-off systems are just a few examples.
Many companies want to become more climate-friendly, but don't know exactly how and where to start. MYBLUEPLANET, funded by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO, has been offering practical support for three years to integrate sustainable measures into the corporate culture and motivate employees to play an active role. Together, this can make a real contribution to climate protection. The appropriate program and more information can be found here.
