Thurauen Nature Center
The natural paradise of the revitalized Thur floodplains is the perfect excursion destination for every nature lover. The floodplain landscape is characterized by water: When the river rises, it washes over meadows and forests, forming gravel banks and islands. When the water level drops, puddles and pools are left behind. This creates a diverse habitat for countless animal and plant species. Dragonflies, water birds, beavers, newts, frogs and water scorpions can be observed. In addition, 30 different orchid species thrive in the Thurauen and the gentian blooms in the fall. The natural paradise can be explored on the signposted hiking trails or on a boat tour. The exhibition and adventure trail provide further fascinating information about the development of the river, which has been allowed to flow freely again after straightening and damming.
