Töss Valley

The Tösstal valley is characterized by densely wooded hills, steep valleys, and streams that flow into the river Töss, from which the valley takes its name. These resources were responsible for two developments: the abundant water and steep gradients promoted the use of hydropower and thus the development of Winterthur into a textile stronghold – even today, the Museum Neuthal and Industrial Culture Museum Neuthal houses the most complete textile industry ensemble in Europe. The central Töss Valley is also known as "Chellenland" because farmers ensured their survival during the harsh winters by carving and selling "Chellen" (wooden cooking spoons).

Activities

The tinkerer Walter Nef has taken up the tradition again and produces chandeliers from regional wood in his company Nef Holzwaren in Bauma - with individual dedication on request.

The Gyrenbad inn dates back to the era when health spas in the higher altitudes contributed to the health of the population.
