The complete solution from Winterthur: A visit to Burckhardt Compression AG
Founded in 1844, Burckhardt Compression AG, based in Winterthur, is now the global market leader in the field of reciprocating compressors. We paid them a visit.
Rainer Dübi, President Services Division, and Simon Schäublin, Head of Global Business Development Services Division, welcomed a delegation from House of Winterthur this summer. During our visit, we learned a lot about the long success story of Burckhardt Compression AG at the Winterthur site and were given a detailed tour of its production halls.
The company is the global market leader in the field of reciprocating compressors. These compressors are used to compress gases for storage or transportation or to move them to chemical reactions. The company was founded in 1844 and today has 2,500 employees. A third of these work at the Winterthur Neuhegi site. Here in the factory halls are "chalet-sized" milling machines. Every compressor built is unique and customer-specific. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the company ended 2020 well and recorded sales growth, an improved operating result and a significantly higher net profit.
Using synergies on site
In an interview, Rainer Dübi, President Services Division, told us why Winterthur is exactly the right location for Burckhardt Compression AG: "We really value the Winterthur site. We have the ideal conditions for our infrastructure here. Our employees appreciate the proximity to their workplace and the quality of life in and around Winterthur. And we benefit from the synergies of the expertise of other local players. However, it is important that this knowledge remains local. The economic ecosystem with all its facets is enormously important for us. The production process is dependent on the environment. However, we are doing quite well in Switzerland/Europe."
