Performing side by side with musicians from the Musikkollegium —that’s the Publikumsorchester.

The Publikumsorchester presents a concert alongside musicians from Musikkollegium . Following intensive rehearsals and under the baton of principal conductor Roberto González-Monjas, the orchestra will present an exciting program.

Diaghilev himself saw potential in Manuel de Falla’s highly successful pantomime based on the novel *El sombrero de tres picos* and urged him to turn it into a full-length ballet. Although it caused a sensation in London, the reception was mixed: some criticized the modernist portrayal of Spanish character, while others praised the ironic use of traditional folk melodies.

Georges Bizet’s *Carmen* suite is just as steeped in Spanish flair. Filled with folkloric elements and fiery rhythms, it is now an absolute audience favorite, even though the opera’s premiere in Paris was a failure. Its big breakthrough came only with the performance at the Vienna Court Opera. Unfortunately, however, Bizet did not live to see the triumph of his *Carmen*.

The program is rounded out by Launy Gröndahl’s Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra, composed specifically for the outstanding brass section of the Casino Theater Orchestra in Copenhagen, of which he himself was a member.

Program:
Manuel de Falla - "El sombrero de tres picos" Ballet Suite No. 2 (1919)
Launy Grøndahl - Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra
Georges Bizet - Carmen Suite No. 1
Georges Bizet - Carmen Suite No. 2
