Gianni Schicchi (A Ball Night)
Opera in Italian with German surtitles by Giacomo Puccini for everyone aged 14 and over.
Puccini uses his only comic opera to paint a picture of a shameless and greedy community of heirs, in which everyone is only out for their own gain. This includes the shrewd mastermind Gianni Schicchi...
Puccini's one-act opera "Gianni Schicchi" does not end with a tragic operatic death: Buoso Donati's body is already laid out when the curtain rises. His loudly lamenting relatives gather around him. But their grief quickly reveals itself to be hypocritical, and soon they are eagerly searching for the rich old man's will. When it is finally found, however, several surprises await the quarreling heirs.
This lively ensemble piece is tailor-made for the members of the Zurich Opera House's International Opera Studio. In her production, young director Lilli Fischer not only tells the story of the fortune hunter Gianni Schicchi: in a short prelude with music by Puccini, Verdi, Johann Strauss, and others, she also shows the last ball to which the rich, pleasure-seeking Buoso Donati invites his guests shortly before his death.
For everyone aged 14 and over.
