Maman

A performative monologue with live music based on the novel of the same name by Sylvie Schenk.

How do you reconcile with a dead person? What can be discussed, clarified, mediated and understood when a person takes their secrets with them to the grave?

"Maman" tells the story of a daughter who only finds out after her mother's death what traumas she suffered and how she became the person she was. Sylvie Schenk's novel is a rapprochement with her own mother and a painful reckoning: Sylvie Schenk's mother was born in 1916 and her grandmother died in childbirth. It is said that she was a silk worker, just like her great-grandmother. But is that true? And what story is passed on to her descendants?

In a production at the interface of literature, music and performance, "Maman" attempts to enter into a dialog with a person who can no longer respond herself.
