Rossini's creative and idiosyncratic version of the famous Cinderella story is an innovative mixture of sensitive yet lively music, with which he brings the world-famous fairy tale, which is also a comedy of mistaken identity, to life.
Angelina is treated like a maid by her father and stepsisters. When the prince is looking for a bride, he and his valet swap dresses so as not to be recognized at the ball. While her stepsisters are still courting the valet, whom they believe to be the prince, Angelina appears dressed as a princess. Everyone is enchanted by her. When the prince gives up his disguise as a servant to Angelina, however, she also puts him to the test: he is to find her again with the help of a shoe.
