KAFKABAGAGE

A journey into the labyrinth of Franz Kafka's thoughts

Figures and spaces are created from papers and wondrous finds, from old books and writings, making Kafka's literature tangible to the senses. In this play, two people set off with six stories, four fragments and a letter in their luggage. The central text is "Die Sorge des Hausvaters", which focuses on the mystery of things. The central question of the life and death of things and whether they are capable of dying if they have never been alive is tailor-made for puppet theater. The interplay of language, music and movement creates captivating theatrical images and a fantastic puzzle. Carefully composed, the result is a poetic journey in the footsteps of Franz Kafka, with characters, luggage and riff-raff: a kafkabagage.

kafkabagage effortlessly transports Kafka's visions of the 1920s into the present day and parallels their fears and absurdities. The weightless Gesamtkunstwerk brings out the magic of Kafka's words, but also their comedy. It does not force any conclusive answers to the pressing questions in Kafka's work, but illuminates them with a beguiling composition of light and darkness, man and thing, being and nothingness.
