In the 1910s - the "glorious decade" - Winterthur developed into an art city of international renown. Important collectors and patrons such as Hedy and Arthur Hahnloser and Georg and Oskar Reinhart heralded a new understanding of art.

This was also influenced by the great Swiss-French artist Félix Vallotton during his numerous visits to Winterthur.
